Book online now!Starting April of 2022, we will be offering our guided Fossil Hunting Tours four days a week. Timed around low tide, these tours offer an incredible chance to enjoy the Lowcountry’s scenic marshes, abundant wildlife, and walk away with a variety of fossil material.
Join us as we venture by boat through Lowcountry tidal creeks to the beautiful Morris Island. The bulk of the tour is spent hiking 5 miles round trip to a spot where you are guaranteed to find prehistoric fossils. Along the way, your guide discusses Lowcountry fossils- from fossil basics to what you can expect to find. Your guide will point out the best places to find a variety of giant shark teeth from species like megalodon, mako, great white, and tiger shark. You may also have the opportunity to find an assortment of vertebrate fossils from marine mammals, sea turtles, marine fish and Ice Age megafauna like tapir, sloth, llama, bison, horse, saber-toothed cats, mammoth, and mastodon. Your guide will assist with fossil identification and sorting.
We do not recommend this experience for infants, small children or dogs due to its long and remote nature. Dogs are allowed on a case by case basis. Private fossil hunting tours may be available during weeks days but are dependent on staff & resource availability, as well as your group size. Call 8843.795.0330 if you have any questions! Happy hunting.
